Must read

Authorities in Kenya have reported a plane crash in the coastal region of Kwale, with concerns that 12 individuals may have died.

The small aircraft went down earlier today en route to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The incident occurred in a mountainous area approximately 25 miles from Diani airstrip, according to officials.

Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orinde informed The Associated Press that all passengers were believed to be foreign tourists, with their nationalities to be confirmed later. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has initiated an investigation into the crash.

The specific breakdown between crew and passengers remains unknown at this point. The plane reportedly crashed shortly after takeoff, igniting and resulting in a charred wreckage at the site.

Witnesses described hearing a loud noise and discovering unidentifiable human remains upon reaching the scene. The airline involved, Mombasa Air Safari, stated it was working closely with aviation authorities and would provide updates on the situation.

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is a renowned tourist attraction known for the annual wildebeest migration from Tanzania’s Serengeti.
