Choosing a baby name can be challenging, especially when parents struggle to agree on one. However, a new trend seems to be emerging in the UK for 2025, with an increase in girls being given celestial names, as reported by BabyCentre.
The experts at BabyCentre revealed that celestial names for girls like Nova, Arabella, and Hallie are becoming more popular this year. They also noted a preference for bold and modern names towards the end of the alphabet, such as Zoe, Zara, and Ayla for girls, and Syed, Zion, and Zayne for boys.
While the top 10 boys’ names have remained consistent, there have been significant movements further down the list. Myles has seen the most significant increase, climbing 21 places to No. 70, while Finn has dropped 42 spots to No. 98. Additionally, 11 new names have entered the top 100, including Austin, Musa, and Hugo.
Predicting naming trends for 2025, an expecting parent on Reddit mentioned a potential surge in boy names ending in -ie/-y in the US, following a similar pattern to the UK with names like Archie, Freddie, and Alfie gaining popularity. Vintage names like Pearl and Ethel are also expected to rise, with the possibility of Elise becoming a trendy choice in the upcoming year.
Furthermore, the trend of using nicknames as first names is likely to continue, with some parents opting for formal names over given nicknames for their children.
