Stephen Fry’s Near-Death Cocaine Scare: Comedian’s Heroic Save

Must read

Sir Stephen Fry, known for his role in “Celebrity Traitors,” narrowly escaped death following a night of heavy drinking and cocaine use, according to a revelation by comedian Ben Elton. Elton recounts how he rushed Fry to the hospital in a taxi, where doctors informed him that Fry was on the brink of permanent brain damage and potential fatality. Elton humorously quips that he saved the renowned brain of the entertainment industry.

This incident unfolded after Fry, 68, exited BBC1’s “Celebrity Traitors.” Elton, famous for co-writing the beloved sitcom “Blackadder,” details the harrowing experience in his new autobiography “What Have I Done?” The night in question occurred in 1992 after a dinner outing in London, followed by an after-party at the residence of the late author Douglas Adams, where Fry was house-sitting.

Elton describes a night of smoking, drinking beer (uncharacteristic for Fry), and snorting cocaine. As the evening progressed, Fry began experiencing alarming symptoms, ultimately collapsing in a chair. Elton promptly arranged for a taxi to transport them to the hospital, where Fry appeared gravely ill.

Despite the challenges faced during the hospital visit, including the disclosure of Fry’s drug use to medical staff, the situation was eventually resolved. Fry, who later wrote about his cocaine addiction in his own memoir, assured Elton that he would address the ordeal in a future book.

Fry’s past struggles with substance abuse, as detailed in his memoir, shed light on a tumultuous period in his life, marked by excessive drug use in prestigious locations. His journey towards recovery and self-realization emphasized the dangers of substance misuse.

Having recently participated in “Celebrity Traitors,” Fry expressed gratitude for the enriching experience and the opportunity to connect with remarkable individuals. Representatives for Sir Stephen Fry were contacted for additional comments on the matter.
