“UK Phone Users Prepare for Digital Voice Revolution”

Must read

A significant change is on the horizon for phone users in the UK, as traditional copper landlines are being phased out in favor of a new technology known as Digital Voice. This upgrade, set to take effect from January 2027, leverages broadband connectivity to facilitate calls, offering improved clarity and enhanced features like call forwarding to mobile devices and enhanced call screening to combat scams and unwanted marketing calls.

To ensure a smooth transition to Digital Voice, BT has launched a campaign spearheaded by Clare Balding, urging homeowners to prepare for the switch. Research indicates that individuals often delay essential tasks assuming that functional services require no immediate action. Balding emphasizes the importance of responding promptly to service provider communications to avoid disruptions.

Customers can expect to retain their phone numbers with no anticipated cost increase during the transition. Most households will only need to connect their existing phones to their broadband hubs, eliminating the need for technician visits. However, in rare cases where issues arise, contacting the service provider may be necessary to resolve any connectivity issues.

Lucy Baker, Consumer Digital Voice Director at BT, underscores the significance of this once-in-a-generation upgrade, stressing the importance of embracing the shift to digital technology for improved reliability and connectivity. Customers with specific needs, such as users of telecare devices, are advised to notify their providers promptly to ensure appropriate support is arranged.

Digital Voice by BT offers a modern home phone service that replaces outdated copper lines with broadband connectivity. This service not only enhances call quality but also introduces new features like Multi Call and call diversion to mobile phones. The transition to Digital Voice is seamless for most users, with no additional charges, as the service is bundled with broadband packages.

Upgrading to Digital Voice is expected to enhance the overall phone experience for households, providing improved call quality and access to advanced features without incurring extra costs.
