“Tragic Train Stabbing in Cambridgeshire Not Terror-Related”

Must read

Saturday witnessed a tragic stabbing incident on a train in Cambridgeshire, which authorities have clarified is not linked to terrorism, according to the Home Secretary. Shabana Mahmood provided an update confirming that the two suspects apprehended in Huntingdon were British-born nationals, praising the rapid response of emergency services and commending the courage shown by both passengers and staff on the LNER train.

Police disclosed that a 32-year-old British male and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent were in custody following the attack. Eleven individuals were injured during the distressing event, with nine sustaining severe injuries on a train heading towards London. Fortunately, four of the victims have been discharged from the hospital. The stabbings occurred shortly after the train’s stop in Peterborough.

British Transport Police Superintendent John Loveless characterized the incident as “shocking,” refraining from speculating on the motives behind the stabbings. The first arrest was made just eight minutes after the attack was reported, as per Mr. Loveless. Among the 11 individuals treated in the hospital, four have been released after initially being in critical condition. There is currently no evidence to suggest a terrorist link to the incident.

The attack, described as “deeply shocking,” transpired on a train departing from Peterborough station in Cambridgeshire at 7:42 pm. It is reported that law enforcement officers used a Taser to subdue a man armed with a large knife during the incident. British Transport Police (BTP) stated that two individuals have been detained in connection with the assault, which occurred on the 6:25 pm service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday.
