At least 11 individuals lost their lives in a tragic fire at a retirement home in Bosnia’s Tuzla city. Witnesses described the harrowing scene of flames engulfing the upper floors of the building.
The fire started on the seventh floor around 8:45 pm, resulting in over 30 people sustaining injuries. Prime Minister Nermin Niksic labeled the incident as a “disaster of enormous proportions.”
Footage from the location showed flames emerging from the building’s windows, prompting authorities to initiate victim identification and launch a fire cause investigation once conditions permit.
Resident Ruza Kajic, residing on the third floor, recounted being awakened by a “cracking sound” and witnessing burning debris falling. She noted the presence of immobile individuals on the upper floors.
The retirement home released a statement expressing their commitment to uncovering the circumstances behind the tragic event. Reports indicated that several patients received treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning, with three in critical condition.
Prime Minister Savo Minic of the Serb Republic extended condolences, stating, “We feel the pain and are always ready to help.”
