“TV GP Dr Punam Krishan Shares Life-Saving First Aid Tips”

Must read

Accidents and health emergencies are common occurrences, and having the knowledge to handle them can significantly impact the outcome, according to TV GP Dr Punam Krishan.

Dr Krishan, a media personality and successful author, was motivated by a personal experience when her grandfather had a fatal heart attack when she was just nine years old. This event led her to believe that understanding first aid is crucial. In her latest book, Dr Krishan shares practical and life-saving first aid techniques in an accessible manner.

“Teaching first aid doesn’t have to be intimidating,” she emphasizes. “It can be introduced through storytelling, play, repetition, and age-appropriate language. The goal is to empower children rather than scare them. Even simple skills like knowing how to call for help and staying composed can be invaluable. My book facilitates these conversations in a gentle and secure way, aiming to boost the confidence of both children and parents.”

Covering topics from basic wound care to recognizing emergency situations and performing CPR, Dr Krishan and Dr Barry Klaassen, the chief medical adviser at the British Red Cross, offer advice and guidance suitable for individuals as young as seven.

Understanding first aid basics is crucial for both home and work environments. William Spencer, the Red Cross First Aid product manager, stresses the importance of being prepared to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies. The Red Cross provides free resources for schools, such as the First Aid Champions program, and offers training for educators. Additionally, adults can access the free First Aid app and website for guidance on various first aid scenarios.

Dr Krishan shares her top five essential first aid skills that she believes everyone should acquire:

– Knowing how and when to call emergency services
– Understanding the recovery position for an unconscious person
– Dealing with choking incidents effectively
– Learning how to manage bleeding wounds
– Recognizing and addressing allergic reactions, including the use of an EpiPen

By equipping individuals with these fundamental first aid skills, the aim is to create a society where everyone can provide help during critical situations.
