“Kunal Nayyar Teases Possible ‘Big Bang Theory’ Return”

Must read

Kunal Nayyar, best known for portraying Raj Koothrappali on The Big Bang Theory, has suggested that there could be a potential return of the popular CBS sitcom in the future. The show, which also starred Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, and Simon Helberg, ended in 2019 after running for 12 seasons, leaving fans saddened by its conclusion.

While Nayyar did not rule out the possibility of a reunion, he hinted that it might be premature for the cast to reunite. During a conversation with BANG Showbiz, Nayyar mentioned, “We only wrapped up in 2019, so we may need a bit more time before considering a comeback.”

Nayyar’s upcoming project is the holiday musical film “Christmas Karma,” directed by Gurinder Chadha, known for “Bend it Like Beckham.” The movie is a Bollywood-inspired adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novella “A Christmas Carol,” with Nayyar portraying the character Mr. Sood, akin to Ebenezer Scrooge.

Initially hesitant about his age fitting the role, Nayyar was convinced by Chadha that he was the perfect fit. He shared, “When Gurinder approached me for the role of Scrooge in this film, I initially thought I was too young for the character.” However, he was persuaded that the role was more about the character’s journey through pain and redemption rather than age.

Since the conclusion of The Big Bang Theory, Nayyar has taken on roles in various projects like Criminal: UK, Suspicion, and Night Court. His decision to explore more serious and intense roles, as seen in Criminal, was a deliberate choice. In a 2020 interview with Metro, Nayyar expressed his desire to break away from his comedic past on The Big Bang Theory and tackle diverse roles that challenge him.

Nayyar emphasized, “There was definitely a conscious decision. It wasn’t about limiting myself to a specific type of work, but the timing was right. It was precisely what I wanted to do. Moreover, given my recognizability from my voice and appearance, it was crucial for me to undertake roles that push boundaries and offer a fresh challenge.”
