British Airways is set to provide passengers with enhanced Wi-Fi services for video streaming following a partnership between its parent company and Elon Musk’s Starlink. The airline plans to introduce the technology on its flights starting next year as part of a significant transformation initiative. Through the collaboration with Starlink, British Airways aims to offer seamless internet access on over 500 aircraft in its fleet using satellites operated by Musk’s SpaceX aerospace firm.
Passengers will soon enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout their journey without the need for a special login, a service that was previously limited on most of the airline’s fleet. The new Wi-Fi service will cater to various needs, from free text-based messaging for loyalty members to paid packages enabling music, video streaming, and movie viewing at prices ranging from £4.99 to £21.99 based on the duration.
Sean Doyle, the CEO of British Airways, expressed the airline’s commitment to enhancing customer experience through the introduction of Starlink Wi-Fi on both short-haul and long-haul flights. This innovative service is expected to differentiate British Airways from its competitors by offering fast and reliable connectivity from boarding to landing, even in remote regions and over oceans, providing a homely Wi-Fi experience at 38,000 feet.
In addition to the Wi-Fi upgrade, British Airways recently unveiled a new transatlantic route connecting London Heathrow to St. Louis, Missouri, a city known for its iconic Gateway Arch and vibrant neighborhoods. Scheduled to commence on April 19, 2026, the flights to St. Louis will operate four times weekly during the summer months. Neil Chernoff, the Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at British Airways, highlighted the significance of the new route, emphasizing the city’s historical and cultural appeal as well as its potential as a gateway to further destinations.
With this latest announcement, British Airways reinforces its position as a leading UK airline serving numerous American cities, with St. Louis becoming its 27th destination. The direct flights to St. Louis will set British Airways apart as the sole UK carrier offering this route, strengthening ties between the UK and the US Midwest.
