“Hamilton Penalized in Mexico Grand Prix Drama”

Must read

Lewis Hamilton received a penalty in the Mexico City Grand Prix after Formula 1 stewards determined he had gained an advantage by leaving the track during a battle with Max Verstappen. Hamilton, starting in third place, found himself sandwiched between Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc while Verstappen tried to overtake on the outside. Verstappen dropped to fourth after going off track, with Norris leading and Leclerc behind.

Hamilton later veered off track due to locked tires, cutting across the grass instead of taking the designated exit road, rejoining in third place. Despite being investigated and cleared for not following the proper route, Hamilton was penalized with a 10-second time penalty for gaining an unfair advantage.

In response to the penalty, Hamilton expressed frustration over the radio, criticizing the track conditions. He maintained his third position but was closely pursued by Oliver Bearman. Bearman, having a strong race, benefited from a battle between Verstappen and George Russell to move up the ranks. Hamilton served his penalty, allowing Bearman to briefly lead before also pitting.

Haas, historically without a podium finish in F1, saw an opportunity for success with Bearman in contention.
