After tying the knot, a couple’s post-wedding bliss turned tragic when their honeymoon excursion led to a fatal incident. Jordan Linn Graham and Cody Johnson, newlyweds of just eight days, embarked on a hike in a Montana national park on July 8, 2013. Graham reported Johnson missing the following day, claiming he had left for a drive with a friend after receiving a distressing phone call. Two days later, Graham allegedly found Johnson’s lifeless body while hiking in Glacier Park. His body was recovered on July 12 from a high vantage point known as the Loop, raising suspicions due to the remote location.
Subsequently, Graham confessed to fabricating the events surrounding her husband’s demise. She admitted to pushing him off a cliff edge during an argument about their relationship, causing his fatal fall. Despite initially stating it was an accident, she pleaded guilty during her trial. Prosecutors dropped a premeditated first-degree murder charge and a false statement charge in light of her guilty plea.
During sentencing, US District Judge Donald Molloy expressed skepticism about Graham’s honesty, stating, “There’s only one person in this room that knows what happened, and I don’t think she’s been entirely truthful.” On March 27, 2014, Graham was sentenced to 30 years in prison for second-degree murder, a term she is expected to serve in full as federal regulations do not allow for parole. Upon release, she will undergo five years of court supervision.
