Following his return to the UK via a small boat after being deported, a man has been deported again.
The Home Office has verified that the migrant, who was detained on both occasions upon arrival in the UK, was repatriated on a flight today. Initially expelled on September 19, he managed to return almost a month later, on October 18.
Under the new ‘one in one out’ agreement between the UK and France, a total of 94 individuals have been sent back to France. The Government criticized the man for futilely attempting to enter the UK. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated: “Anyone seeking to re-enter the UK following expulsion under the UK-France agreement is wasting their resources and time.
“This individual was identified through biometrics and promptly detained. His case was expedited, leading to his subsequent deportation.
“My stance is clear: if you attempt to re-enter the UK, you will be repatriated. I am committed to enhancing the removal of illegal migrants and fortifying our borders.”
In a previous statement to The Guardian, the man expressed: “If I had believed France was safe for me, I would never have returned to the UK.” He recounted being taken to a shelter in Paris, noting: “I was too scared to venture out as my life was at risk. The smugglers posed a significant threat.
“They always carried weapons and knives. I fell victim to a human trafficking ring in the French forests before crossing from France to the UK for the first time.” He recounted being menaced with a firearm and warned that “any resistance would result in death”.
Under a fresh accord established in July, individuals arriving in the UK via small boats can be apprehended and returned to France. In return, an equivalent number of asylum seekers with valid claims are sent back in the opposite direction.
The Government anticipates that this deal will deter individuals from entrusting traffickers with large sums of money. Officials aim to increase the volume of returns significantly.
