While the traditional method of frying an egg in butter or oil is undeniably satisfying, why not explore new possibilities in your cooking? There is a vast array of ingredients available that can elevate the taste and texture of your fried eggs, offering a unique culinary experience each time.
Chef Rebecca, from The Practical Kitchen, has unveiled her special technique for creating the perfect fried eggs – by seasoning them with paprika bloomed in oil before they even hit the pan. She mentioned that ever since she started incorporating paprika instead of just relying on salt and pepper, she never looked back.
While Rebecca’s approach may seem unconventional, it ensures that the paprika flavor permeates both the egg white and yolk to the fullest extent possible.
According to reports from the Express, the chef emphasized that by keeping the yolk runny, you can enjoy dipping your toast without the need for extra salt, as the flavor is already infused in the egg.
Instead of simply cracking the egg into the pan and seasoning it with salt and pepper, the recommended technique involves blooming the salt, pepper, and paprika in the pan before adding the egg.
Blooming is a culinary method that entails releasing the dormant flavors of spices by cooking them in fat prior to continuing with the cooking process.
To begin, heat oil in a small non-stick frying pan over low heat. Once the oil shimmers, introduce the salt, pepper, and paprika, swirling them in the pan to distribute evenly.
The hot oil aids in intensifying the paprika’s flavor, causing it to sizzle slightly and transform into a fragrant, deep red color rapidly.
Rachel explained, “By blooming the spices first, the oil becomes infused with flavor, enhancing the overall taste of the egg as it cooks.”
Crack the egg directly into the pan, allowing it to settle into the oil and spices. Sprinkle a small amount of salt over the yolk and add a fresh grind of pepper.
Once the egg whites turn slightly translucent (approximately 30 seconds), gently shake the pan from side to side to loosen the egg for easy movement around the pan.
Tilt the pan slightly so the egg and oil collect in a corner, allowing the oil to cover the top of the egg slightly to aid in the cooking process.
You can also spoon the oil over the egg and add a splash of water to the skillet before covering it to steam the egg’s surface. Reduce the heat to a simmer.
Set a timer for three to five minutes, monitoring to prevent sticking and overcooking.
