“Rotherham Abuser Gets 3 More Years”

Must read

In Rotherham, a previously convicted abuser, Sageer Hussain, received an additional three-year sentence for sexually assaulting a vulnerable teenager in the town. This penalty comes on top of his existing 19-year term for violent rape against another girl. Hussain, aged 40, was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old after a National Crime Agency probe earlier this year at Sheffield Crown Court.

During sentencing, Judge Thomas remarked on the prevalence of abuse in the area, highlighting the systemic exploitation of young individuals. A shocking report from 2014 revealed that over 1,400 children in Rotherham endured horrific sexual exploitation between 1997 and 2013, involving rape, abduction, trafficking, and physical violence.

The NCA’s ongoing Operation Stovewood has led to the prosecution of 49 individuals, including Hussain, for their involvement in the Rotherham abuse cases. Despite nearing the end of his previous sentence, Hussain was handed an additional three years for his latest crime, with the judge noting his lack of positive role models and the impact of his actions on the victims.

Hussain, a married man with brothers also convicted of similar offenses, faced the court via video link from HMP Moorland in South Yorkshire. The judge acknowledged his medical condition and commended his conduct in custody. Hussain, who showed signs of emotion during the sentencing, will serve half of the new sentence before being released under supervision.

The victim’s courage in reporting Hussain’s crimes was praised by NCA senior officer Alan Hastings, emphasizing the importance of speaking out against abuse. Operation Stovewood continues to investigate historical cases of abuse in Rotherham, with 49 individuals prosecuted so far. Hussain’s co-defendants await sentencing in November at Sheffield Crown Court.
