Teacher Accused of Sexual Relationship with Student

Must read

A 28-year-old teacher, Teresa Whalin, is accused of engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old student and subsequently harassing him post their separation. The allegations involve a sexual relationship and the exchange of explicit photos between Whalin and the underage pupil. Furthermore, it is claimed that Whalin resorted to creating fake phone numbers to contact the student.

Following the purported commencement of the relationship in April 2023, the student purportedly experienced mental health challenges. According to an affidavit, the student referred to the association as “dating”, with both parties sharing Snapchat messages, dining together, and spending time in the teacher’s classroom.

After the student terminated contact with Whalin, she allegedly began stalking him due to emotional distress from the breakup. Reportedly, Whalin would drive to the student’s residence and appear along his school route in Denver, Colorado.

Upon the student disclosing the alleged incidents to a school counselor on a Monday, law enforcement authorities were notified, resulting in Whalin’s arrest on the same day as reported by the Denver Post. During police interrogation, Whalin purportedly confessed to the sexual relationship, sharing nude images, and using fake numbers to communicate with the student in hopes of gaining his attention.

Whalin is facing charges of sexual assault on a child by a trusted individual, internet exploitation of a minor, and stalking. She has been detained at the Douglas County Detention Centre on a $50,000 (£37,907) bond. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Whalin has been on administrative leave since her employment at the Douglas County School District in July 2021. The school district has been informed of the arrest and is cooperating with the investigation currently in progress.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted into the matter.
