An 18-year-old teenager has been convicted of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old boy in the neck during a crowded New Year’s Eve celebration. Areece Lloyd-Hall attacked Harry Pitman at London’s Primrose Hill as revelers gathered to watch fireworks over the River Thames on December 31, 2023.
The incident unfolded in front of a crowd of spectators who had gathered to enjoy the New Year’s Eve festivities. Harry, described as “lively and boisterous,” was involved in playful interactions before the attack occurred. Lloyd-Hall, then 18, aggressively approached Harry and stabbed him with a dagger, just meters away from police officers stationed nearby.
Court proceedings revealed shocking mobile phone footage capturing the moment when a knife was brandished during the altercation. Harry and Lloyd-Hall were unknown to each other and had attended the event with separate groups of friends.
The tragic confrontation seemed to have stemmed from a scuffle between Harry and one of Lloyd-Hall’s companions earlier in the evening. Following a playfighting incident where Harry lost his balance and bumped into another person, tensions escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing.
Despite claiming that he had not intended to cause harm, Lloyd-Hall was found guilty of murder after a retrial at the Old Bailey. The court heard that Lloyd-Hall, who was 16 at the time of the incident, may have been affected by cannabis-induced paranoia and post-traumatic stress disorder from previous traumatic experiences.
Harry’s family reacted with audible gasps as Lloyd-Hall was convicted of murder. The teenager is set to be sentenced on November 10 at the Old Bailey. The trial also revealed Lloyd-Hall’s previous conviction for possession of an offensive weapon.
