Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband package to a historically low rate. The company has launched an unexpected sale that reduces the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
The Gig1 plan offers speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically retails at £29.99 per month. However, customers can now sign up for the service at a discounted rate of £26.99 per month, resulting in savings of £72 over the 24-month contract period, which averages out to approximately 87p per day.
According to Virgin, this promotion represents the “lowest ever price” for its Gig1 package. With these speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
While households with 70Mbps speeds may experience a download time of over 90 minutes for the same game, Virgin’s ultra-fast connection ensures seamless streaming of Netflix and online gaming. It is advised to verify the availability of the 1,130Mbps speeds in your area using Virgin’s postcode checker.
Although the discounted rate of £26.99 is subject to two increases during the minimum term, reaching £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028, the Gig1 Fibre Broadband deal remains highly competitive. Comparatively, other providers like Sky offer a 900Mbps plan at £28, which is still pricier and slower than Virgin’s offering.
For those seeking alternatives, BT provides a 900Mbps connection at £37.99, while Community Fibre offers 1Gbps speeds at £25 per month with the first three months free and guaranteed price stability throughout the contract. However, Community Fibre’s services are limited to London and select south-east regions.
It is essential to assess one’s internet needs before committing to a contract. For casual streaming and everyday use, speeds of around 100Mbps may suffice, while larger households with multiple users engaging in high-bandwidth activities should consider speeds of at least 300Mbps to ensure efficient connectivity.
Selecting Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre connection can be likened to having a high-speed motorway directly linked to your living space, providing a smooth and reliable online experience.
