A new name is set to join the ranks of legendary Formula 1 champions like Michael Schumacher on a special piece of sports memorabilia. This unique item, endorsed by Schumacher and his wife Corinna, features his signature on a race helmet previously worn by fellow F1 icon Sir Jackie Stewart.
Schumacher, absent from the public eye since his skiing accident in December 2013, has maintained privacy regarding his health condition. Despite limited information, Corinna has shielded him from the media spotlight surrounding the seven-time F1 champion.
Recently, Sir Jackie Stewart, supporting his Race for Dementia charity, revealed that Corinna assisted Schumacher in signing the helmet by guiding his hand to inscribe his initials, ‘MS.’ The helmet now boasts signatures from all living F1 champions, with a possibility of adding a 21st name in December, depending on the ongoing season’s outcome.
As the season nears its end, Max Verstappen, currently trailing in points, could potentially be the 21st addition to the helmet if he stages a remarkable comeback. Otherwise, either Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri, teammates at Red Bull, will complete the list of signatures on the helmet.
The original helmet is now on display at the F1 Exhibition, while a replica version is up for grabs in a charity raffle open to F1 fans worldwide. By donating £10 or more, fans can enter for a chance to win the replica helmet and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Sir Jackie will personally present the prize. Proceeds from the raffle will support his charity’s efforts in dementia research.
Sir Jackie emphasized the importance of raising funds for dementia research, citing it as a significant challenge and expressing gratitude for the fans’ generosity. F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali praised Sir Jackie for his dedication to the cause, highlighting his advocacy and passion in the battle against dementia.
Fans have until November 22 to participate in the raffle at: https://win.raceagainstdementia.com/entry.
