A wealthy Aviva executive passed away following a fatal car accident where his Aston Martin crashed into a tree on a rural road, as revealed in a recent inquest.
The former CEO, David Barral, aged 63, was driving a grey DBX SUV when the incident occurred near Wetherby, West Yorkshire, on October 14. Tragically, he was alone in the vehicle, which caught fire upon impact with the tree.
During the initial stages of the investigation into Barral’s death, West Yorkshire coroner Oliver Longstaff stated that a pathologist’s preliminary findings indicated that Barral succumbed to “multiple traumatic injuries” from the crash.
The coroner confirmed that Barral was pronounced dead at the scene on A58 Leeds Road in Bardsey. The inquest was adjourned for six months to allow authorities to conduct further inquiries into the circumstances of the accident.
Regarding the crash, the coroner emphasized that there was no suspicion of any third-party involvement in the incident leading to Barral’s death. A local shopkeeper, Shazia Tariq, who interacted with Barral shortly before the accident, described him as a generally positive individual but noted a sense of distress in his demeanor that day.
Aviva expressed deep sorrow over Barral’s passing, highlighting his significant contributions to the company as a respected leader. Barral, originally from East Kilbride, Scotland, had shared his life aspirations of ensuring his children’s well-being and experiencing personal achievements like catching a Marlin and riding a Harley.
