Chrysler’s parent company, Stellantis, announced on Friday that it will be recalling just over 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks globally due to a seat belt problem. The recall applies to 2019 to 2026 Ram 1500 vehicles that may have been assembled with incorrectly attached second-row center or driver-side seat belt buckles. This issue could compromise the effectiveness of the second-row seat belt system, potentially increasing the risk of injury to passengers. Stellantis has reported one injury linked to this problem but no fatalities.
The recall affects 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico, and approximately 75,000 in other regions outside North America. Stellantis will be reaching out to affected vehicle owners to arrange for inspections at authorized dealerships. During these inspections, dealers will examine the second-row seat belt buckles and ensure they are correctly attached to the vehicle’s body if necessary.
