Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the show promises to present Dolly’s life story in her own authentic voice, highlighting the experiences that have shaped her.
In an announcement video, the 80-year-old icon emphasized that the musical will reflect her true origins, struggles, triumphs, and personal growth. The production will feature a mix of new songs created for the show and some of Dolly’s iconic hits, including “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.”
Scheduled to kick off on December 7 in New York City, the performances are slated to run until November 21, 2027. Parton expressed her excitement, calling the Broadway debut a long-awaited dream realization. With a career spanning nearly seven decades, Parton, a prolific songwriter with over 3,000 compositions and over 100 million albums sold worldwide, has been recognized with inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The musical initially premiered in Nashville last summer to a sold-out audience at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Director Bartlett Sher shared his awe at the audience’s profound connection with Dolly, noting how she has consistently inspired and brought joy to people over the years. The show aims to provide an unfiltered narrative from Dolly, shedding light on aspects of her life beyond the glitz and glamour associated with her persona.
Tickets for the Broadway show will go on sale to the public on Friday, July 10, offering fans the opportunity to experience Dolly Parton’s captivating story live on stage.
