In a recent Instagram post, Zak, Zelda, and Cody Williams expressed their intention to maintain the account as a secure platform that upholds their father’s legacy with authenticity and respect. This post marked the first activity on the “therobinwilliams” Instagram account since July 31, 2014. The children aim to share their father’s exceptional talent and humor, reminiscing about the moments that brought joy to many worldwide.
Robin Williams had an illustrious career spanning film, television, and theater. From his breakout role in the television series “Mork & Mindy” (1978-82) to his memorable performances in movies like “Good Morning Vietnam” (1987), “Dead Poets Society” (1989), “Mrs. Doubtfire” (1993), and “Jumanji” (1995), Williams left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry. Zelda Williams, an actor and director, has consistently condemned AI recreations of her father, urging fans to refrain from sharing such content. She emphasized her opposition to AI-generated depictions of Robin Williams, stating that it goes against his wishes. In a recent Instagram story, she highlighted the revival of her father’s Instagram account as a means to combat the misuse of AI.
While actor Matthew Lawrence expressed interest in utilizing AI to bring back Robin Williams’ iconic voice, he emphasized the importance of obtaining approval from the Williams family before proceeding with any such projects. Similarly, Bernice King, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., has voiced objections to her father’s likeness being used in AI creations.
The emergence of AI-generated representations in the entertainment industry is evident with the upcoming film “As Deep As the Grave,” where a digital version of the late actor Val Kilmer will feature. Kilmer’s estate authorized his digital replication for the film, demonstrating a new dimension in the portrayal of deceased actors in modern media.
