U.S. President Donald Trump declared on social media his intention to initiate what he described as “the MOST DEVASTATING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER UNLEASHED AGAINST ANY NATION!” Trump emphasized that this action would entail Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unparalleled level but provided limited specifics.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump also cautioned against any country that supported Tehran or extended any form of assistance to Iran, highlighting potential economic repercussions. He emphasized that any country permitting their financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to aid Iran would face significant Economic Consequences.
Without naming any specific country, Trump underscored the urgency for halting activities like oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies. He urged immediate cessation, stating, “You know who you are.”
The ongoing conflict has resulted in numerous casualties over the past six months, involving multiple Gulf nations. Iran’s demonstrated control over shipping routes, particularly through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, has caused global market disruptions, as a substantial portion of the world’s traded oil transits this route.
Despite ceasefire agreements announced by the U.S. and Iran in April and June to restore shipping flow through the Strait of Hormuz, these efforts quickly faltered. Trump’s social media declarations do not always materialize as intended.
