After the passing of Matthew Perry in 2023, fans were shocked to learn about his struggle with ketamine addiction, which contrasted with his beloved character, Chandler Bing, from the iconic show “Friends.” To provide a more comprehensive understanding of the late Canadian actor, Netflix has announced a forthcoming three-part docuseries titled “The One About Matthew Perry.”
The documentary will delve into Perry’s journey from a rising comedic talent to his renowned role on the hit sitcom. It will feature never-before-heard testimonies from close associates, including his sister Mia Perry Bowick, who is a grief specialist. Bowick expressed her readiness to share intimate memories of Perry, portraying him as a multifaceted individual beyond his on-screen persona and addiction struggles.
Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased at the age of 54 due to a ketamine overdose in his home’s hot tub. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to offenses related to providing him with the drug, with Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who supplied Perry with ketamine, currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
Netflix has assured that the docuseries will not only showcase fond recollections of Perry but also reveal candid insights into his personal battles, paying homage to his legacy of transparency and advocacy. The highly anticipated series is set to premiere on October 27.
