Dennis Haskins, renowned for his portrayal of principal Richard Belding on the popular TV series “Saved by the Bell,” has passed away at the age of 75. The sad news was confirmed by his agent, Jay Schachter, in a statement to CBC News.
Schachter expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the widespread admiration for Mr. Belding and the personal affection many had for Dennis. He described Haskins as a remarkable individual who held a special place in the hearts of his fans, always making time for them and showing genuine care. Schachter, who had a close professional and personal relationship with Haskins for over two decades, expressed profound sadness at the passing of his client and dear friend.
Haskins gained fame for his role as the compassionate and authoritative principal of Bayside High, known for his iconic catchphrase, “Hey, hey, hey, what is going on here?” The actor, originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, first portrayed Mr. Belding on the Disney Channel’s “Good Morning, Miss Bliss,” which later evolved into “Saved by the Bell” on NBC, running from 1989 to 1993.
Continuing to embody his beloved character, Haskins reprised the role on “Saved by the Bell: The New Class” and participated in a memorable sketch on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in 2015, reuniting with former co-stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez, and Tiffani Thiessen.
Following Haskins’ passing, his former co-stars took to social media to express their affection and memories. Thiessen, who played Kelly Kapowski, remembered him as a guiding figure during her teenage years, while Lopez, who portrayed A.C. Slater, shared heartfelt words of friendship and gratitude.
