The youths, aged 18, were handling the fireworks when the accident occurred. One teen sustained hand injuries, while the other suffered injuries to the face, according to North Yorkshire Police. An Air Ambulance was dispatched to the Yorkshire scene, and the injured individuals were swiftly taken to James’ Cook University Hospital in Middlesborough for medical care.
Reports indicated that the fireworks display was unauthorized. An eyewitness mentioned the swift response of emergency services but highlighted challenges in accessing the area due to traffic congestion. The witness suggested closing the street to vehicles during such events for better safety.
Social media images depicted youths gathered around a bonfire near the RNLI station at the beach. A video also circulated showing a person walking with a sparking firework, surrounded by cheering friends. The situation quickly turned dangerous as the firework ignited, leading to a brief explosion.
The Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed receiving an emergency call reporting the incident at 7:13 pm on November 5th. Multiple ambulance units, including two ambulances and the air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene, where two patients were transported to the hospital.
Another observer described the chaotic scene at Scarborough, likening it to a warzone. They highlighted the need for authorities to take action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
