The Ottawa Rapid have introduced Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This announcement comes after current head coach Katrine Pedersen revealed her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the season’s end last month.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive playing career that includes three Women’s World Cups and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. She has also gained coaching experience in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.
The Rapid have confirmed Moscato’s appointment on a two-season contract, where she will immediately begin preparations for the upcoming seasons, focusing on player recruitment.
In a statement, team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed his confidence in Moscato, emphasizing her leadership qualities, coaching expertise, and profound understanding of Canadian soccer. Moscato herself expressed excitement about joining the Rapid and building on the foundation already established by the team, aiming to create an environment that nurtures player development and competitiveness.
