Freely Emerges as a Strong Contender in the UK TV Market
The TV landscape in the UK is witnessing a shift with the emergence of Freely as a formidable competitor to the established players like Sky and Freeview. Launched in 2024, Freely has quickly gained traction, attracting over one million households to its platform.
Since its inception, Freely has consistently upgraded its features and expanded its content offerings. With a diverse selection of over 50 live channels accessible without the need for traditional aerial or satellite dish installations, Freely is reshaping how viewers access television content.
In a recent development, Freely has introduced its new offering, the Freely Spotlight Channels, providing additional entertainment options to viewers at no extra cost. These channels can be streamed seamlessly through a standard Wi-Fi connection.
Freely has disclosed that the Spotlight Channels will be available on channel 31 and channels 90 to 99, and will also be accessible to CTV OS partners on Freely-enabled devices. V (formerly VIDAA), the company behind the VIDAA OS smart TV platform utilized in Hisense televisions, has been announced as the launch partner for the Spotlight Channels. This collaboration will bring a curated selection of channels from V’s lineup to the Freely TV Guide.
The introduction of Freely Spotlight Channels will integrate these new channels alongside established UK broadcasters within the TV guide, enhancing visibility and credibility for selected channels within the regulated TV landscape of the UK.
While specific details about the content on the Spotlight Channels are yet to be revealed, more information is anticipated closer to the launch date.
Deep Halder, Chief Commercial Officer at Everyone TV, expressed the company’s commitment to delivering long-term value through the Freely platform. By enabling CTV OS partners to feature in designated sections of the TV guide, Freely aims to create fresh opportunities for partners while ensuring that free, trusted TV content remains easily accessible in the digital era.
For those unfamiliar with Freely, it is managed by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat. The distinguishing feature of Freely is its delivery of content solely through a broadband connection, eliminating the necessity for aerials, satellite dishes, or complex installations.
To access Freely, households only require a compatible TV or set-top box and a reliable Wi-Fi connection. The platform offers a wide array of benefits, including over 50 live channels, on-demand content access, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the capability to pause live television.
