An Israeli airstrike in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, as reported by health officials. The strike, which occurred near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, claimed the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, 3, and Hussam Nusair, along with several others sustaining injuries.
According to Gaza medics, the Israeli military targeted and eliminated a Hamas militant, alleging that Nusair had been involved in attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. Hamas has not issued an immediate response to these claims.
Despite a U.S.-backed ceasefire last October that temporarily calmed tensions in the region, Israeli military actions have persisted, with the aim of preventing attacks by Hamas and other Gaza-based militants. Hamas has accused Israel of breaching the ceasefire agreement and obstructing the implementation of a broader plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to resolve the Gaza conflict, which includes Israeli withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.
Since the ceasefire came into effect last October, over 1,300 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza, according to health officials in the region. In contrast, the Israeli military reports that four Israeli soldiers have been killed during this period.
