Labour’s head of policing has expressed interest in exploring the idea of blunt-tipped knives as a potential measure to reduce fatal stabbings, a proposal put forth by actor Idris Elba. Sarah Jones mentioned that altering kitchen knives to have rounded tips could be a significant preventive step, supported by evidence.
She also highlighted the potential effectiveness of knife arches in schools as a helpful tool, emphasizing that the decision to implement them rests with school leaders. Following the tragic loss of Harvey Willgoose, his parents have advocated for the installation of these arches in all secondary schools and colleges.
Jones noted the Government’s progress in fulfilling its commitment to halve knife crime within ten years, citing recent data showing a decline in reported cases.
