Madonna, the iconic queen of pop, is making a grand return to reclaim her throne. Surpassing Taylor Swift, Madonna has secured the top spot in this year’s MTV Video Music Awards nominations. This marks her third time as the most nominated artist at the VMAs in her illustrious career.
With a remarkable 11 nominations for the upcoming ceremony, Madonna’s acclaimed album, “Confessions II,” and its corresponding film have garnered significant recognition. Notably, she has outshined Taylor Swift, the most honored solo artist in VMA history, who received nine nominations for her album “The Life of a Showgirl” and the music video “The Fate of Ophelia.” Following closely behind Swift are Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, each with seven nominations.
Madonna previously led the VMAs nominations in 1990 and 1998 during her “Vogue” and “Ray of Light” eras. However, her unforgettable performance at the inaugural 1984 ceremony remains a defining moment in VMA history, pushing the boundaries of cable television acceptance. The performance featured Madonna in a wedding dress with a “Boy Toy” belt buckle, singing “Like a Virgin” while rolling on the stage.
Among Madonna’s nominations are key categories such as video of the year, artist of the year, and song and collaboration of the year for “Bring Your Love” with fellow nominee Sabrina Carpenter.
