For many Britons, a perfectly cooked poached egg on buttered toast is a favorite breakfast choice. Despite its popularity, issues often arise during the cooking process, as reported by the Daily Record.
Traditionally, poaching eggs involves cracking them into boiling water on the stovetop, a method that can be challenging. Ensuring the egg stays intact while removing it from the water can be particularly tricky.
Cooking expert Mary Ann, known as the Frugal Chef on YouTube, recently shared her foolproof technique for mastering this breakfast classic. Her method involves placing water and salt in a ramekin, then gently adding the egg into the mixture.
While Mary’s recommended cooking time is 60 seconds, she advises adjusting based on personal preference and microwave strength.
She explained, “Microwaves vary, so it’s essential to find the right timing. Start with 45 seconds and adjust as needed to avoid overcooking.”
Mary stressed the importance of removing the egg promptly after microwaving to prevent overcooking, stating, “Leaving it in the water will continue the cooking process, so take it out promptly.”
On the We’re Not Getting Any Younger podcast, chef Tom Kerridge shared his method for achieving perfect poached eggs. He suggests swirling water just below simmering in a pan and adding a splash of vinegar before gently cracking the egg into the water.
His preferred technique involves using a cup to hold the egg and vinegar mixture before pouring it into the swirling water, aiding the egg in maintaining its shape.
Healthline points out the health benefits of including eggs in one’s diet, emphasizing the importance of choosing high-quality eggs and cooking methods for better nutrition. Opting for pasture-raised or organic eggs and using high-heat cooking oil when frying can enhance the nutritional value of eggs.
