A religious non-profit organization established by an American Christian musician whose performance in Moncton was canceled last year has initiated legal action against the city. Burn 24/7 Canada, the non-profit founded by Sean Feucht, filed a notice of action in Moncton court on August 4, alleging that the city’s cancellation of the “musical worship show” violated the organization’s freedom of expression rights.
The organization claims that the revocation of permits for the event infringed on rights protected under section 2(b) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. According to the statement of claim, these infringements are significant and impact essential civil liberties in Canadian democracy.
Feucht, a Christian missionary and singer known for his controversial views on various topics, had planned a performance as part of his “Let Us Worship” tour in Moncton. However, two days before the scheduled show in July 2025, the City of Moncton revoked the necessary permits, citing non-compliance with the city’s Code of Conduct in City Facilities and safety concerns related to anticipated protests.
The organization asserts that safety concerns were not a valid reason for the cancellation and alleges that it was due to Feucht’s conservative Christian values and public support for former U.S. President Donald Trump. Burn 24/7 Canada is seeking $50,000 in damages as a result of the cancellation, claiming financial losses incurred in relocating the event to an alternative venue.
Despite the legal action taken by the organization, the city has refrained from commenting on the matter, citing its pending status in court. Feucht’s organization has faced similar challenges in other Canadian cities where their events were canceled, leading to lawsuits and disputes over perceived infringements on their rights to freedom of expression.
The organization contends that it had complied with all city requests and had made necessary arrangements for the event in Moncton, including providing security measures and logistical details. The legal proceedings aim to address the alleged violation of the organization’s rights and seek redress for the financial impact of the canceled event.
