“Tragic Murder Case Leaves Son in Time Daze”

Must read

Jake Reiner has experienced a distorted sense of time since December 14, 2025, feeling as if it has simultaneously dragged on endlessly and flown by swiftly. Speaking with journalist Mark Cota-Robles from KABC-TV, Jake reflected on the events following the tragic discovery of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were found murdered in their Los Angeles residence. Their son, Nick Reiner, aged 32, was later arrested and charged with their deaths.

In a recent interview, Jake expressed the overwhelming nature of waking up daily to the harsh reality of his situation. Recounting the moment when his sister Romy informed him of their father’s death and their mother’s disappearance, Jake described his immediate shock and disbelief.

Nick Reiner was formally charged on July 20 with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ passing. The indictment, unveiled on August 12 by the LA County grand jury, alleged that Nick, who had a well-documented history of mental health issues and substance abuse struggles, had planned the attack on his parents.

In 2016, Rob and Nick Reiner collaborated on a film called “Being Charlie,” inspired by Nick’s battles with addiction. The movie explored the story of a rebellious teenage son of a politician who grapples with drug addiction. Rob had previously stated that the film was deeply personal and had strengthened his bond with his son.

During the recent interview, Jake reiterated his sense of profound loss, emphasizing the absence of Nick, who is now in custody. He expressed complex emotions towards his brother, struggling to comprehend the tragic events and the feelings of anger and helplessness that have consumed him. Jake acknowledged the harsh reality he faces and the challenges of coming to terms with the unfathomable loss of his parents.
