“Train Hero’s Instinctive Act of Bravery”

Must read

A courageous individual who intervened to protect passengers from a train attacker states that he simply acted on instinct. Stephen Crean, now recognized as a hero, recounts his actions during a violent stabbing incident aboard a train en route to Huntingdon station. Despite the praise for his bravery, Stephen remains humble, describing himself as an ordinary person.

The Nottingham Forest supporter had been returning from a football match between Forest and Manchester United when the shocking events transpired on the LNER service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross. Upon hearing passengers raising alarm about a knife-wielding individual, Stephen found himself face to face with the attacker after others sought refuge in the buffet bar and occupied toilets.

Engaging in a confrontation with the knifeman, Stephen sustained severe hand injuries while trying to disarm him. Subsequently, he fled to an unoccupied restroom on the train to tend to his wounds. The train was redirected to Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire where Stephen received medical attention, including stitches for his injuries.

Escorted to a hospital, Stephen underwent treatment for his wounds, with bandages applied to his head and hands. Currently recuperating at a local medical facility, he anticipates the removal of his bandages by the week’s end. Despite his injuries, Stephen remains adamant that he acted out of necessity and does not consider himself a hero, emphasizing that there are individuals in greater need.

While the club owner offered to cover medical expenses for affected fans, Stephen declined the assistance, believing others may require it more urgently. Expressing a desire to return to attending Forest games once recovered, he remains undeterred by the incident, affirming his commitment to supporting the team.

Anthony Williams, a 32-year-old from Peterborough, has been charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder and possession of a bladed article, in connection with the attack. Following the incident, eleven individuals received medical treatment, with some remaining in critical condition.
