A man from the UK passed away after collapsing at the summit of a mountain during a hike to celebrate his daughter’s birthday. The 63-year-old suffered a heart attack at the peak of Ella Rock in southern Sri Lanka. The climb, which typically takes hours to complete, was undertaken on October 25 as part of the daughter’s 34th birthday festivities.
Upon reaching the top, the man suddenly collapsed, as confirmed by local authorities. He was quickly taken to Bandarawela Hospital but unfortunately could not be revived. An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was a heart attack. The duo had arrived in Sri Lanka on October 16 and had previously explored Weligama before heading to Ella Rock.
A spokesperson from the Foreign Office expressed condolences, stating that support is being provided to the family of the deceased individual. This tragic incident follows the recent death of a British fashion and travel influencer in Sri Lanka. Ebony McIntosh, a 24-year-old from Derby, fell ill during a trip and passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Her sister, India, paid tribute to Ebony on social media, expressing deep sorrow and a yearning for her return. The family is devastated by the loss and seeks justice for Ebony, highlighting the vibrant life she had ahead of her.
