Dianne Buswell recently addressed critics on social media who expressed discomfort watching a pregnant woman dance. The professional dancer defiantly showcased her moves, including a cartwheel, in a video on her Instagram page. In response to negative comments, she wrote, “For all those people saying they can’t watch a pregnant girl dance! I just can’t help it when I hear the beat,” alongside an emoji of a pregnant woman.
Reiterating her passion for dancing, Dianne stated in the caption, “I just can’t help it when I hear the beat,” and included various emojis, including one of a pregnant woman. Supportive messages from friends and fans flooded the comments section, with fellow Strictly star Kai Widdrington commenting, “Tell ’em di,” and It Takes Two host Fleur East showing support with clapping hands emojis.
One fan expressed admiration, saying, “I looove this! i think it’s so cool to see you still dancing! shows even more how inclusive dance can be! always keep dancing.” Another fan, who is a midwife, commended Dianne, stating, “As a midwife, I applaud you and loved watching you dance!!!”
The controversy arose when Dianne’s dance partner, Stefan Dennis, had to exit the show due to a torn muscle in his calf. Despite claims of a planned early exit due to Dianne’s pregnancy, she refuted the allegations. Dianne, expecting her first child with her partner Joe Sugg, responded to a viewer’s comment on her Instagram Stories, where the viewer speculated that the exit was planned for safety reasons.
In response, Dianne asserted, “I would love nothing more than to keep dancing… Please respect Stefan who is extremely gutted to not be able to dance and stop presuming this was a set up! because believe me we would if we could!” The ongoing support from fans and her dedication to dancing were evident in her responses to the criticism.
