A new trend in fashion is emerging, featuring clothing infused with beneficial bacteria. The collection, including leggings, bodysuits, and tops, is priced between £150 and £180 each. Designed by Paris-based fashion brand Coperni in collaboration with Swiss biotech experts, the garments aim to enhance the skin’s protective barrier and natural radiance.
The innovative clothing line, named Carewear, incorporates approximately 140,000 live bacteria cells per gram of stretch fabric. These friendly bacteria gradually interact with the skin during wear, promoting skin health. The garments are durable, with the active ingredients expected to remain effective through up to 40 washes.
Coperni’s founders, Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer, envisioned clothing that not only dresses but also cares for the wearer. They emphasized the importance of considering the skin as a living ecosystem and sought to create clothing that supports well-being. The brand believes that future garments will serve as companions in wellness and reflect a more mindful approach to living.
Prior to launch, the materials underwent meticulous design to ensure comfort and were dermatologically tested on human skin. Coperni has a history of unconventional releases, such as a memorable runway show featuring Bella Hadid initially appearing naked and then being covered in a white outfit using a unique spraying technique developed by Fabrican, a technology company specializing in advanced materials.
In another bold move, Coperni’s Fall Winter 2023 show featured robot dogs assisting models in changing outfits on the catwalk, inspired by the fable “The Wolf and the Lamb.” The show also showcased bags crafted from a 55,000-year-old lunar meteorite and transparent glass bags created in collaboration with New York glass brand HEVƎN.
Notably, celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Billie Eilish, and Kim Kardashian have embraced Coperni’s collections, recognizing the brand’s innovative and boundary-pushing designs. Similarly, Kim Kardashian’s brand, Skims, is known for its daring releases, such as a thong with faux pubic hair. This intersection of fashion and technology continues to redefine the industry and captivate fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
