Prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, Christian Brueckner, suggested a potential relocation destination in a GoFundMe plea.
The convicted rapist sought financial assistance to depart from Germany, managing to receive €100 (£87.92) in just a few hours before the fundraiser was shut down. Before its removal, Brueckner elaborated on his reasons for seeking donations and his desired departure location from Germany. He boasted about his notoriety in Germany, claiming even the police addressed him informally.
Brueckner aimed to collect €50 (£49.96) from donors to facilitate his move to a country lacking an extradition agreement with Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office. By choosing such a nation, he hoped to evade being returned to Germany due to political or economic tensions between the countries.
Expressing his desire to depart legally from Germany, Brueckner emphasized the need for a respite from suspicion, preconceptions, and relentless scrutiny. He solicited funds on GoFundMe, stating that €500 could secure accommodation unregistered with the Braunscweig public prosecutor’s office. Although his intended destination remains undisclosed, his lawyer hinted at potential countries without extradition treaties, such as Suriname in South America.
Having served a sentence for assaulting a 72-year-old American woman in Portugal’s Algarve region, where Madeleine vanished, Brueckner had been unemployed and reliant on welfare benefits. He hoped for community support to facilitate his departure, reasoning that financial assistance could enable his relocation.
A German court mandated Brueckner to wear an electronic monitoring tag for the next five years, with its jurisdiction limited to European Union countries. His defense attorney suggested seeking refuge in non-extradition states like Suriname to avoid legal repercussions in Europe or the UK.
Brueckner, proficient in English and Portuguese, sought a jurisdiction where he could live freely without extradition risks. Countries without extradition treaties with the UK, such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, and Vietnam, were considered viable options. Similarly, nations without such agreements with Germany, including the Maldives, Montenegro, Indonesia, and Morocco, were potential destinations for Brueckner’s potential relocation.
