Canada is gearing up for its first appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest, with the opportunity to showcase its talent on the global stage. The decision on whether to go for a classic ballad like Céline Dion’s 1988 success or opt for a quirky performance akin to Greece’s recent entry lies with the chosen artist. The application process is now open for performers interested in representing Canada at Eurovision.
Potential competitors include Rêve, a Montreal artist who won the 2023 Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year, Talk, who impressed at the 2024 Canada Day concert and won the Juno for breakthrough artist of the year in 2024, and bbno$, the Fan Choice Juno winner in 2025 and 2026.
To qualify, contestants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, at least 18 years old by May 1, 2027, and able to pass standard background checks. Applicants must submit two videos showcasing their live performance and passion for Eurovision, along with bilingual singing abilities.
The selection process involves CBC/Radio-Canada shortlisting finalists after the application portal closes on Sept. 9. The chosen artist will play a key role in shaping the final song for Eurovision, receiving support from established songwriters. The selected artist will be heavily involved in the songwriting process, music video production, and live performance preparation leading up to the Eurovision Grand Final in May.
The final selection will be a combination of online public voting and a separate jury vote, with the chosen artist expected to be announced before winter. Despite the intense workload, artists will be compensated for their efforts, with the ultimate reward being the exposure gained from performing on the Eurovision stage.
