He also mentioned Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Canadian Conservatives, as having minimal impact on negotiations, describing him as a “non-entity.”
Following a conversation between Trump and Carney, new tariffs on Canadian products were postponed for three days. Trump expressed satisfaction with the deal, stating it benefited both parties and emphasized the positive rapport between the administrations.
The agreement reportedly includes reductions in sectoral tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum, and automobiles by the U.S., while Carney instructed premiers to reintroduce American alcohol in liquor stores. Details of other concessions by Canada remain undisclosed, though Trump claimed the deal would eliminate tariffs on U.S. farmers.
Vance asserted that the objective of the negotiation was to influence Canada’s behavior and align it more closely with Trump’s policies.
