John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In a statement, Tory expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction.
Tory’s tenure commences on October 1, as stated in a recent news release. The upcoming festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who had been serving as chair since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing enduring pride in his contributions to the festival’s evolution.
TIFF also disclosed the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch EchevarrÃa. Simultaneously, Asha Daniere is stepping down from the board after a nine-year tenure. TIFF conveyed its deep appreciation for Daniere’s dedicated service and valuable contributions to the organization.
