Elliot Page’s performance in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey was widely praised earlier this year. Despite this, the Canadian actor revealed that he hasn’t received any new acting opportunities since then. Page made this disclosure during a recent appearance on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy.
When asked about his future projects, Page responded, “No, Kevin, I’m not” regarding the lack of incoming offers post The Odyssey. Notably, he was acclaimed for his portrayal of the Greek soldier Sinon in the film, a role that garnered attention for its depth and impact.
Page humorously addressed the backlash he faced as a Canadian actor, alluding to the transphobic reactions that emerged when false rumors circulated about him playing Achilles. This controversy, fueled by right-wing figures like Ben Shapiro and Megyn Kelly, was debunked when it was clarified that Page had a different role in the movie.
Having been in the industry since childhood, Page is known for his diverse roles, including his Oscar-nominated performance in Juno. In 2020, he came out as transgender and has since been a vocal advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, condemning anti-trans legislation and rhetoric in both the U.S. and Canada.
In a recent podcast interview, Page expressed his eagerness to continue acting and hinted at delivering some of his best work post-transition. Reflecting on his past discomfort in certain roles, he now feels more confident and liberated to explore new characters. This renewed sense of authenticity and self-assurance has invigorated his passion for acting.
Notably, Page is not the only actor from The Odyssey experiencing a post-film lull in offers. Samantha Morton, who portrayed Circe in the movie, shared a similar experience of a dry spell in her acting career following the film’s success. Morton acknowledged the evolving dynamics of the industry and the challenges faced by actors at different stages of their careers.
