Swiss authorities announced the apprehension of a 43-year-old individual in connection with a fatal shooting incident at a rave in Aarau over the weekend. During the early hours of Sunday at a horse racing track venue, a 22-year-old Italian woman lost her life, while five others sustained injuries. Following an extensive operation, the Swiss police arrested the suspect just before 1 a.m. on Monday on suspicion of perpetrating the attack.
Law enforcement in the canton of Aargau stated that investigations into the incident’s circumstances, background, and potential motives are ongoing, with initial beliefs pointing to a lone perpetrator. Authorities mentioned three possible motives being considered for the shooting: a mass shooting, a terrorist act, or an unidentified criminal motive.
The crime scene revealed cartridges of two different calibers, hinting at the use of a pistol and a potentially larger weapon, such as an assault rifle. Although the cartridges bore resemblance to those utilized in the Russian AK-74 assault rifle, police refrained from confirming this information. The victim, identified as Maria Spinelli by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, was the 22-year-old Italian woman who tragically lost her life in the incident.
