“13-Year-Old Raises $21K for Make-A-Wish Canada”

Must read

A 13-year-old from Cape Breton successfully raised $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada through a hotdog stand and generous donations. Jake Campbell, along with his family, sold hotdogs over the weekend, receiving supplies from No Frills and Wonder Bread. Last year, they raised $3,000, and this year, Campbell aimed to double that amount, which they achieved.

The hotdog stand was set up in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., where in addition to hotdog sales, people also contributed cash donations. Hollie Quick, a senior development officer for Make-A-Wish Canada, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support from Sydney.

Quick mentioned that Campbell’s fundraising efforts last year earned him an award in memory of a wish child. Inspired by this recognition, Campbell returned this year with a bigger fundraising goal. The funds raised will now be used to fulfill the wishes of 81 children in Nova Scotia, ranging from creating accessible spaces in their homes to family trips.

Campbell emphasized the importance of supporting Make-A-Wish Canada, as it benefits not only the children but their families as well. As they plan for next year, Campbell remains uncertain about the exact breakdown of funds from hotdog sales, but he is enthusiastic about future endeavors in fundraising.
