“Canadian Volleyball Duo Secures Bronze in Montreal”

Must read

Canadian beach volleyball pair Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament held on home turf. The 2024 Olympic silver medalists fought back to defeat Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16, securing a podium finish.

Wilkerson showcased an impressive performance with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points. The match experienced a pause due to adverse weather conditions before resuming.

Despite a semifinal loss to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta, ending their three-peat aspirations, the Canadian duo had another shot at bronze against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann. Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson had previously claimed victory at the Montreal tournaments in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver in between during the Paris Games.

In the men’s category, Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a comeback to secure an upset win in the bronze-medal match against Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen. After dropping the opening set, Schachter and Pickett rallied to win the next two sets, 28-26 and 15-12, marking their first podium finish together on home ground.

Their journey included a notable victory over the world’s top-ranked duo before falling short in the semifinals to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein. The Canadian pair’s perseverance paid off with a bronze medal in a thrilling match.
