A soon-to-be father experienced a horrific beheading followed by being eaten by an individual who believed he was safeguarding humanity from extraterrestrial beings.
Tim McLean, a Canadian carnival worker, was on a bus journey to Winnipeg to visit his pregnant girlfriend. While peacefully listening to music at the rear of the bus, Vincent Weiguang Li entered the bus. Witnesses noted Li’s agitated demeanor but mentioned that he sat quietly at the front initially.
Subsequently, Li moved to the back of the bus where Tim was sleeping against the window. On July 30, 2008, at 8:30 pm, Li violently attacked Tim, removing his ear, tongue, and nose, which were later found in Li’s possession. Authorities recovered Tim’s body parts from the bus, but his heart and eyes were never located, leading to suspicions that Li consumed them. Li is currently a free individual.
Despite efforts by a young veteran and the bus driver to intervene, they were unsuccessful. Li prevented anyone from aiding Tim, brandishing a knife and causing panic among passengers. The bus was secured to confine Li, who relentlessly assaulted McLean by stabbing him multiple times in the neck and chest.
In a gruesome turn of events, Li displayed McLean’s severed head to onlookers and proceeded to consume parts of his flesh, prompting disgust among witnesses. Law enforcement arrived on the scene and subdued Li after a five-hour standoff during which he tried to escape but was eventually apprehended after being shot with a Taser.
Claiming to have heard divine instructions to thwart an alien invasion, Li professed that he believed he was on a mission to protect people. Diagnosed with mental illness, Li was deemed not criminally responsible for the murder and was committed to a mental health facility.
Despite the tragedy, Tim’s family continues to grapple with the emotional aftermath. In 2017, Li was released and now resides independently in a Manitoba community. He changed his name to Will Lee Baker, while Tim’s family finds solace in Tim’s son, born five months following the tragic incident, believing it to be a divine gift.
