Raheem Sterling recently sold a luxurious property on the southern coast of Jamaica just before a devastating storm struck the area. The Chelsea footballer grew up in a three-bedroom bungalow in Kingston’s Maverley neighborhood, sharing the space with eight family members.
Although Sterling relocated to London at the age of five, he wanted to maintain ties to his heritage. Consequently, he acquired a contemporary beachfront residence in Whitehouse, Westmoreland from renowned Jamaican-Caribbean artist Patrick Waldemar.
The exact purchase date of the property is undisclosed, but it was constructed in 2020. The house comprises four bedrooms, five bathrooms, an open-plan living and dining area, and verandas and balconies offering stunning waterfront views.
Reportedly, Sterling decided to sell the property in February, with an 18-year-old sixth form student purchasing it. Tragically, Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm, struck the southern coast of Jamaica in June, bringing destructive winds of up to 130 miles per hour. The hurricane caused severe damage, resulting in four fatalities in Jamaica and widespread destruction across the Caribbean, the Yucatan Peninsula, and the Gulf Coast of the United States.
Additional reports indicate that Sterling also owned a lavish £1 million mansion in Kingston in 2018, although his current ownership status of that property remains unclear.
Recently, Jamaica faced another calamity with Hurricane Melissa causing significant devastation. The Category 5 storm hit near New Hope, claiming at least five lives and affecting over 58,000 British citizens on the island. The entire country was declared a “disaster area,” with flooded communities and power outages reported in hospitals.
Following Hurricane Melissa, several footballers and organizations expressed solidarity with Jamaica on social media, including Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Charlton Athletic’s Tyreece Campbell. The Jamaica Football Federation and the Grenada Football Association also shared messages of support.
Hurricane Melissa was downgraded to a Category 3 storm upon making landfall in Cuba, bringing heavy rains and storm surges. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel reassured the population, stating their determination to recover from the storm’s impact.
