“Decorated Goalie Connor Hellebuyck Requests Trade”

Must read

Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck, a decorated player with an Olympic gold medal and three Vezina trophies, has officially requested a trade, as confirmed in a statement released through his agent. Speculation about Hellebuyck’s future has been ongoing, and he disclosed that he had made the trade request to the Jets privately a few months back.

In his statement, Hellebuyck mentioned that he had been handling the situation discreetly to allow the organization time to consider its options. However, with the approaching training camp, he decided to make his request public, believing that moving on would be the best decision for himself and his family. Despite this, he expressed gratitude to the Winnipeg Jets fans and hoped for a prompt resolution.

Hellebuyck, aged 33 and hailing from Michigan, achieved a remarkable milestone by being named both the league’s MVP and top goaltender following the 2024-25 NHL season, during which the Jets secured their first-ever best record in franchise history. Jets’ General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff acknowledged Hellebuyck’s desire for change but stated that there were no updates on the goalie’s future with the team.

Cheveldayoff praised Hellebuyck’s contributions to the organization over the years and emphasized the team’s respect for his achievements. He assured that they would handle the situation thoughtfully as they work towards a resolution.

In his statement, Hellebuyck reflected on his draft by the Jets in 2012, expressing his dedication to proving the team’s decision right. Additionally, he was honored by U.S. President Donald Trump with the Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this year for his outstanding performance in the Olympic gold-medal game against Canada. Hellebuyck has also been a finalist for the Vezina Trophy on five occasions.
