A highly intense tornado has swept through the village of Pomas in southern France, causing injuries to numerous individuals and extensive damage to over 300 homes. Fortunately, there have been no reports of missing persons.
According to the Aude prefecture, as of Tuesday morning, around 1,400 households were still without power. The tornado was captured swirling above the town of Verzeille, located just a few kilometers east of Pomas, late on Monday. Several homes in its path suffered broken windows.
The tornado also passed through Preixan, situated a few kilometers north of Pomas, as shown in images obtained from social media and verified by Reuters.
In the aftermath, a man can be seen amidst the wreckage of a house that was damaged by the tornado in Pomas. Debris littered the interior of the Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church after its roof collapsed due to the tornado. Fallen trees can be observed in a cemetery in Pomas.
Additionally, individuals were pictured covering the damaged roof of a building with a tarp in Pomas, and pedestrians were seen walking past a fallen tree near the damaged homes in the area.
